The ice cream trucks are roaming, the hydrants are cracked open, and I can’t stop thinking about margaritas and outdoor seating… it could only mean one thing – summer’s around the corner! Which is great news for me; evidently, you can not get a good tan from computer monitors.

What better way for Kevin and I to get outside than to spend the afternoon zipping around the neighborhood with our Epic in tow? An hour or so later, we had this video assembled. That’s fast – Screaming Fast!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is “Screaming Fast Workflow”?

It’s Kevin hitting record, me hitting the gas, and a short while later, this video hitting the internet. It’s using our Red Rocket system for realtime 4K playback and transcoding in at a fraction of the time traditionally needed. It’s exciting.

[Above: REDCINE-X's export queue - it's oddly satisfying seeing those progress numbers fly.]

What does Screaming Fast Workflow mean for you? Traditionally, there are loooong wait times associated with working with footage at this high quality – the computer has to process the footage multiple times before it’s ready for final viewing. But with our Red Rocket and Epic camera, you can shoot, color grade, edit, and have your masterpiece ready for viewing without interruption. To quote the six million dollar man, “We have the technology!”

And to answer the question you’ve no doubt been asking since you saw today’s video – Yes, I’m available for stunt work.

Thanks! -Dan

Are news reporters going to start using the RED Epic as a field camera?

Well, not exactly, but Get-Kinetic exhibited to NBC 10’s Harry Hairston, and the crew from Studio TEN Creative Group why RED is changing the industry.

Studio TEN and Get-Kinetic combined efforts to create spots to promote Hairston’s investigative reporting for NBC 10. Studio TEN’s Mat Mezer directed each spot, and brought on Kevin Hackenberg to direct photography. The creative team wanted a gritty feel to the spots and had come to the table with a great concept and a number of great locations. On the scout, Kevin was able to add to the the creative by recommending some of his favorite locations that portray a cinematic underbelly to Philadelphia.

Supplied with Get-Kinetic’s in-house RED Epic, super-speed primes, grip package and a car rig, the team created impressive 5K original images in very low light conditions.

The spots are airing now, so tune in to NBC 10 to check them out or check them out here…
