GK has been keeping busy with an amalgamation of opportunities as of late, what with old friends and new friends alike looking to get us out and about.  Last week witnessed another collaborative effort with the folks over at Versus, as we took to the field (or, the rink as it were) with the RED package in tow for a production day at the Flyer’s Skate Zone in Voorhees.  A quick word to the wise…if you ever find yourself forced to shoot on a literal ‘sheet of ice’, be sure to have the proper footwear.  And never underestimate the value of helmet!

GK found itself pairing recently with the production duo of Old Harbor Productions and Digitas, for a one-day multicam shoot on the Canon 5D.  The project, lensed by GK’s in-house DP Kevin Hack, is part of a series of owner testimonials for automaker Buick and will be continuing to film nationwide over the next few weeks. A viral launch is currently scheduled for sometime in 2011.

The Get-Kinetic team is also happy to welcome Green, Tweed to its growing list of clients.  GK has been collaborating with local Cinematographer JR Campbell on an industrial project for the locally based Green, Tweed (who call Kulpsville, PA home to one of their largest worldwide headquarters).  The project, consisting of several interview and b-roll production days with the RED One camera package, was field produced by GK staffer Paul Irwin.  JR set up behind the lens in the DP role, and Dan Gauthier will be handling all editorial and VFX work on the project’s behalf.  The promo piece is currently being posted in-house at GK, with a project completion set for mid-November.

Get-Kinetic has found itself in the mix on a number of sports related projects over the past week.  On Labor Day Monday, the GK crew spent the day shooting the closing season commercial for the Phillies.  The spot, which will be airing during the final two weeks of the regular season, is a thank you campaign to Phil’s fans that support and watch the team in a variety of ways beside the traditional trips to the ball park.  Produced by Sue Redmond of Rubberband, and with creative direction by Kelly Simmons, the spot certainly proved to be a fun way to close out the summer of 2010.  Kevin Hack shot the commercial on the Canon 7D, with the format being the perfect choice for this particular set of circumstances.  The field crew needed to balance between the need for high-end/HD image quality, and the desire to be quick and light on their feet.  The shoot day witnessed the capture of more than a dozen plus set-ups in a collective of high profile Philly stomps including McFadden’s @ Citizens Bank Park, the Linc, Chickie’s & Pete’s, the Piazza, FDR Park, as well as trains along SEPTA’s R5 & Broad Street Lines.  GK staffer Paul Irwin jumped on board the field crew as UPM, having coordinated the logistics for Monday’s shoot, and was joined on set by GK’s Tom Fanelle.  We think that Paul & Tom, both Phillies fans since birth, would’ve likely joined the mix no matter what…even if it meant hiding out in the production vehicle overnight.

On Friday, GK closed out the week with a shoot for Versus.  The sports network enlisted the services of GK for an interview shoot with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in New York City.  Kevin Hack shot the interview on GK’s RED One camera package during the one-day affair at the NHL’s corporate headquarters in Manhattan.  The project was coordinated by Caleb Wilkerson, Versus’ Director of Online Content, and will be up on the network’s website sometime over the next week or so.

With the sudden flurry of sports driven content being run through GK as of late, could a call to attend Super Bowl XLV be somewhere in GK’s not too distant future?  Anyway there ya have it folks, the weekly shout-out courtesy of GK.  Next stop, Arlington on February 6th…well, here’s hoping anyway!

Cheers, -GK

At the outset of the summer, GK became the first shop in the Philly market with an upgraded RED One Mysterium-X camera package.  The Mysterium-X sensor raises the RED cameras low-light sensitivity, and offers an extremely low noise level.  Basically, it offers the RED One a significant advantage where the race to become the industry’s leading digital cinema camera is concerned.  And just in case you think GK took part in RED’s upgrade program just for kicks, here are a few things that the camera (and GK’s in-house Director/DP Kevin Hack) have been up to as of late…

One of the more recent fruits of GK’s labors has just begun to air, in the form of the new TV spot for the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.  GK collaborated with agency producer Tristan Olson, and the Colorado based Vladimir Jones, for their second production teaming in the past year.  When the Bethlehem, PA based casino needed to upgrade their branded spot content, to exploit their recently added table games, Vladimir Jones came back to GK for their production needs.  Somehow, between hanging in the high-rollers lounge, drinking martinis & smoking cigars, Kevin and the Vladimir Jones gang actually ended up making a commercial to boot!

GK recently teamed with Fusion director Don Vitello, for a Maaco TV campaign.  The spots were shot at various locations in and around the Greater Philly region over the course of a week, including a stop at the Riversharks stadium in Camden. The spots were produced by Michelle Casale, and edited at Fusion’s Philly headquarters.

So there ya have it folks, the weekly shout-out courtesy of GK…who will be the next to collaborate with Get-Kinetic & the RED!  Cheers, -GK

Summer 2010 has been an active stretch for the GK team, with the company finding itself at the helm of a varied array of projects over the past few months.  The outset of the summer witnessed principal photography for the short film “Location Location”, a narrative based promotional short produced and funded by the Greater Reading Film Commission. Shot on Get-Kinetic’s RED One camera package, and directed by GK’s very own Kevin Hack, “Location Location” proved to be great way to fill a large portion of June’s production calendar.  The project’s producer Tracy Schott was instrumental in securing the cooperation and support of the City of Reading throughout the 9 days of principal photography.  Her collaboration and expertise allowed for such aggressive logistics as street and railroad closures, rooftop filming some 20 stories in the air, as well as helicopter footage and set-ups at the infamous Reading Pagoda (most recently known for its appearance on the one-sheet for M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender”).  Penned by Reading Film Commission Chair Santo D. Marabella, and currently posting in-house at GK, the film will receive its world premiere on October 3…the screening is set to take place at 2pm, at the R/C Reading Movies 11 & IMAX Theater.

In July, GK jumped head first into the sleek and stylish campaign for European baby products manufacturer Nuna.  The project witnessed the production of four videos, one for each of Nuna’s flagship infant products consisting of the Leaf, Zazz, Pepp, and Ivvi.  The undertaking was the third successful collaboration between GK & Conshohocken based advertising agency 20nine, with creative direction by 20nine’s CEO Greg Ricciardi, art direction by the agency’s Kevin Hammond, and cinematography by Kevin Hack with a Canon 5D camera package.  Local production designer Gino Fortebuono provided his artistic input during his first teaming with Get-Kinetic, and the filming took place locally at Hill Theater Studios in Paulsboro, NJ.  The spots were all cut in-house by GK editor Daniel Gauthier.

GK’s most recent joint initiative took place in August, in the form of a corporate campaign for VisionCare.  The project was filmed over the course of 3 days in early August, at Wills Eye Hospital and a number of suburban locations.  This most recent pairing represented another of many enjoyable partnerships for GK with the Maryland-based firm Eyemaginations, Inc.  The videos were directed by Eyemaginations member David Messing, and lensed by Kevin Hack on GK’s RED One camera package.  The pair will be back in studio for a day later this month, at GK’s Fishtown headquarters, for a product and testimonial shoot to finish out this effort for VisionCare.

So there ya have it folks, the weekly shout-out courtesy of GK.  Stay tuned for updates on more of GK’s collaborations, screenings, and efforts…& most importantly, keep busy!

Cheers, -GK
